This
is a video of a special event celebrating the release of a very unconventional
crossover CD, "OPERATICA, Volume 1" featuring opera singer
MAUREEN O'FLYNN (heard here singing "Ave Maria") who takes
her coloratura soprano clubbing and hip-hopping. The album
is a Hegelian synthesis of diametrically opposed musical styles - bel
canto and hip-hop, Gluck and rock, opera and electronic - into a
possibly new genre, hence the title OPERATICA. It was produced by emaginemusic
(now defunct) in the hope that the combined synergies would give the
avid hip/trip-hopper every reason to become curious about opera and
the hard-nosed purist to become tolerant, if not appreciative, of musical
hybridizations/explorations represented in the album. |
