Press Release:

YOUNG SITAR VIRTUOSO ANOUSHKA SHANKAR WELCOMES HER FATHER, THE LEGENDARY RAVI SHANKAR, IN HIS FIRST RECORDING APPEARANCE IN MANY YEARS ON ANOURAG, HER SECOND ALBUM FOR ANGEL, SET FOR AUGUST RELEASE

The young sitar virtuoso Anoushka Shankar continues the legacy of her father, the legendary Ravi Shankar, with the release of her second album for Angel entitled ANOURAG, on which Ravi Shankar also performs. The Aug release of ANOURAG -- comes in the midst of "Full Circle," a tour featuring both Anoushka and Ravi Shankar and celebrating Ravi's 80th birthday. This June, Anoushka performed in London at The Royal Opera House, along with celebrities such as: Madonna, Bryan Adams, Vanessa Redgrave, Miranda Richardson and many more, in support of the Tibetan Peace Garden Appeal, an organization spearheaded by Trudie Styler (Sting's wife) in conjunction with His Holiness the Dalai Lama, who opened the garden last May with the message of "peace throughout the world".

ANOURAG follows on the success of ANOUSHKA, the debut solo recording of Anoushka Shankar on Angel which featured the 18-year-old sitarist performing five pieces of classical sitar music written and produced by her father. Ravi Shankar also composed the six works on ANOURAG, and performs with Anoushka on "Pancham Se Gara," the recording's final track and his first new recording as performer in many years.

The Aug 15th release of ANOURAG coincides with the debut solo performance of Anoushka at Summerstage in Central Park as well the celebration of "Indian Independence Day." Throughout the upcoming "Full Circle" tour, she shares the stage with Ravi, performs his Sitar Concerto No. 1 and conducts master classes. The tour celebrates Ravi's 80th birthday and the 70th anniversary of the beginning of his musical career.

ANOURAG continues the Shankar family's extraordinary presence in the world of Indian classical music, which has won a huge international audience in recent decades because of Ravi Shankar's virtuosity as composer and performer and his passionate advocacy of his musical heritage. Anoushka is the only sitarist in the world completely trained by her father.
