Henry & Friends

STRING SEXTET in the AFTERNOON

In May 2005, Henry and Friends were presented by the Lake San Marcos Music Society in a performance at the Schulman Auditorium at the Carlsbad Library in San Diego County, CA. In addition to Henry, the artists included violinist Julia Cser (former concertmaster of the AmericanYouth Symphony), violist Brian Dembow (formerly of the New York String Quartet, the Sequioa Quartet and the Angeles String Quartet), cellist John Walz (currently principal cellist of the Los Angeles Opera), and two members of the Rossetti Quartet - once again Thomas Diener and cellist Eric Gaenslan.

The sextet performed two relatively unfamiliar works: a pensive piece by Johannes Brahms (Sextet in G Major, Op. 36), punctuated by the rather stormy Poco allegro of the final movement and Peter Tchaikovsky's lyrical Sextet, Op.70 "Souvenir de Florence." Henry and friends gave a tour-de-force performance that held the audience in rapt attention to the very last note - a uniquely thrilling way to spend what could otherwise have been an uneventful Sunday afternoon.

Bravo, Henry and friends - for a precious performance and for sharing the joys of chamber music!
