PROGRAM: Music of Palestrina, Walczyk, Kenton, Janacek and special guest soloist, Allan Vogel, performing Bach's "Concerto for Oboe and Violin" and "Adagio in E Flat for Oboe" by Tison Street.

The Hutchins Consort is the world's only ensemble performing on the eight acoustically balanced instruments of the New Violin Family designed and built by physicist/luthier Dr. Carleen Hutchins , and represents the first successful attempt to create a violin family as envisioned by the Renaissance luthiers. The smallest instrument plays an octave higher than a traditional violin and the largest is over 7 feet tall.

Featured guest soloist, Allan Vogel, is hailed by The Los Angeles Times as "an aristocrat of his instrument, an oboe virtuoso with few equals and perhaps no superiors." Principal Oboist with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Mr. Vogel has been guest principal oboist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and The Academy of St. Martin-In-The-Fields, as well as appearing with the Berlin Philharmonic, Seattle Symphony, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, and Chamber Music Northwest. He has also appeared at a number of music festivals including Mostly Mozart Festival, Santa Fe and Sarasota Festivals, and the Marlboro Festival Orchestra under Pablo Casals. With a doctorate in performance from Yale University, Mr. Vogel is a member of the faculty at California Institute of the Arts and the University of Southern California.

The Hutchins Consort will also perform "L'Homme Arme" by Giovanni Palestrina, "Suite for Strings", by L. Janacek, and Stan Kenton's "Intermission Riff". The Board of Directors of the Hutchins Consort will host a reception to meet the musicians immediately following the concert. The Southern California based Hutchins Consort has been invited to a five-day residency in April at the prestigious Lied Center of the University of Kansas and a three-day/four concert residency in May at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
