Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg
isinternationally acclaimed for her
fiery concert performances. Her original and bold interpretations
of violin masterpieces in a style that has both flamboyance
and depth, make her among the most sought after artists of her
generation.
Born in Rome, she moved to the US at the age of eight to study
at the Curtis Institute of Music and later at the Juilliard
School with the late Dorothy DeLay. Her professional career
began in 1981 when she won the Walter W. Naumburg International
Violin Competition. She has since made her mark as one
of the top performing and recording artists of her generation.
In 1999 she was awarded the prestigious Avery Fisher Prize for
"outstanding achievement and excellence in music."
With over 20 CDs to her name, she has recorded
for Nonesuch and Angel/EMI Classics, with guest appearances
on the Sony, RCA Victor/BMG and OMAC labels.
Ever the groundbreaker, in 2005 she launched NSS Music, her
own recording label which speciliazes in live performances.
She envisions it as a haven for performing artists, with the
goal of recording both new and established works across the
musical genres. "Merry: A Holiday Journey" is the
fifh CD on her new label, and its release celebrates the company's
first anniversary as well as the fulfillment of a long-held
dream of recording an album of her Christmas favorites.
