...is the title of a violin concerto
to which Anne-Sophie Mutter has a special attachment.
It is also a fitting metaphor
for her graceful transformation...

Metamorphosen
is Krzysztof Penderecki's Violin Concerto No.2. The renowned Polish composer was inspired by Anne-Sophie Mutter to write the piece and it was she who fittingly premiered the work in 1995. Their recording of the work (with the composer conducting the London Symphony Orchestra) has won them a double Grammy - for best instrumental soloist performance and for best classical contemporary composition.

She is naturally the most ardent advocate of this compelling piece of music. She gave the US premiere in 1996 at a Carnegie Hall concert with Michael Tilson Thomas and the San Francisco Symphony. Most recently, she reintroduced the work along with other modern violin music during her New York Philharmonic residency in January 2000 and will surely bring it to the rest of the world's concert stages in the days to come.
