Daniel Röhn, Violin ANDERS HILLBORG New work (US Premiere) Rising Stars is a project of the European Concert Hall Organization (ECHO), supported by the European Commission. For this series, the directors of Europe’s most important concert halls and Carnegie Hall—the only non-European member of ECHO—nominate young soloists or ensembles from their own countries to appear in other ECHO halls. Rising Stars nominees appear at Carnegie Hall in the Distinctive Debuts series in Weill Recital Hall. Daniel Röhn and Daniel Blendulf were nominated by the Stockholm Concert Hall. Beiser Maya Beiser, Cello JOBY TALBOT Motion Detector for Cello
and Live Electronics (World Premiere) Maya Beiser takes the cello to the
uncharted territory of ancient vocal traditions—Renaissance madrigals;
traditional Cambodian, Chinese, and Taiwanese minority singing; women
chanters of Morocco; Jewish cantorial music; and Indian ritual singing.
These inspire this program of new works that explore the incredible range
of sounds and expressions of the cello, often considered the instrument
most similar to the human voice. |

SFJAZZ Collective
With an all-star line-up including vibes legend Bobby Hutcherson and renowned saxman Joshua Redman, the SFJAZZ Collective celebrates the sound of jazz as a vital and ever-changing art form. Each season, the 8-person Collective divides its repertoire between all-new compositions by the band members themselves and works by a modern jazz master. In this concert, in addition to the group’s own cutting-edge compositions, the Collective will focus on music by the celebrated jazz innovator Ornette Coleman.
