This 10-CD commemorative set is as good a documentary of Leonard Bernstein's years with the New York Philharmonic as it gets. Not only does one get to listen to 13 hours of music culled from some of Bernstein's most memorable performances (the set covers the years 1951-1981). With the two companion booklets that give a detailed chronology of Bernstein's concerts with the NY Philharmonic (before, during and after his tenure with the orchestra), one also gets to look at photos that speak volumes of the man and the musician and to read precious personal reminiscences of those whose lives he touched - as conductor, mentor, colleague, and friend.
