The Minato Mirai Hall is part of a new waterfront complex in the city of Yokohama. Designed for the 21st century as is everything in the Minato Mirai district, the Hall opened its doors on June 5, 1998 with an inaugural concert featuring Kurt Masur and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. It is the city's first full-scale concert venue, with a main hall seating more than 2,000 and a pipe organ with 4,623 pipes. With its superb acoustics, the Hall provides an excellent venue for the area's Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra and promises to be a popular setting for organ recitals and concerts by visiting orchestras and ensembles from all over the world. It is indeed a welcome addition to the cultural life of this bustling port city.
