In this video clip, ROD GILFRY traces the development of his career
beginning from his childhood days in the suburbs of Los Angeles,
circa 1960s. Having grown up in a musical family, he knew early
on that he was headed for a music-related career, but oddly, becoming
an opera singer was not his first choice among the options on
his radar screen then.
Some conclusions that emerge from this clip: 1). Growing up in
LA-LA land with its fabled distractions is no obstacle to nurturing
a career in a classical art form; and 2.) It is possible to maintain
a happy balance between family and a successful career in the
performing arts, and ROD GILFRY, opera star and proud family man,
is one shining example.

In
January 2008, GILFRY takes his act a few miles south of LA to Orange
County. On January 8 at 8 pm he sings, with Alan Smith at the piano,
an eclectic program of songs that will surely regale the audience and
bring to fore his exceptional vocal and dramatic abilities. The show
takes place at the IRVINE BARCLAY THEATRE under the auspices of the
PHILHARMONIC SOCIETY OF ORANGE COUNTY. Then from January 23-February2,
he performs the role of Papageno in OPERA PACIFIC's production of Mozart's
"The Magic Flute" at the ORANGE COUNTY PERFORMING ARTS CENTER.
