Soprano Hildegard Behrens was honored in a tribute by the Los Angeles Wagner Society January 25, 1998 following several performances of Salome at the LA Opera, together with mezzo-soprano Helga Dernesch who sang the role of Herodias in the same opera.. The ceremony was held at the Jules Stein Institute Hall on the UCLA campus.

The 2-hour event celebrated these leading Wagnerian singers with video and audio highlights of their careers and a fascinating interview conducted by Perry Lorenzo of the Seattle Opera. The program closed with the presentation of awards by Wagner Society Chairman Sherwin Sloan followed by the signing of autographs. A Gala dinner capped the evening celebration.
