Notes:
The Beethoven Piano Concertos:
No. 1 in C major
No. 2 in B flat major
No. 3 in C minor
No. 4 in G major
No. 5 in E flat major "Emperor"

Rondo: A piece in which the leading theme (e.g., A) is repeated, alternating with other themes (B, C) - in a pattern such as A-B-A-C-A-B-A.

It is not known who coined the title "Emperor." Certainly not Beethoven. Unauthorized but popular and apt, the name stuck - unchallenged by the experts.

The piano was Beethoven's favorite instrument, and in Vienna his reputation as a piano virtuoso preceded his fame as as composer. Thus it is no surprise that he composed many wonderful works for the piano (See Beethoven's compositions.)
