JAKE HEGGIE: composer/pianist/master teacher
America's most popular young composer of opera and song

THE COMPOSER

    - Jake Heggie on his collaboration with
                   Sister Helen Prejean

Dead Man Walking marked Jake Heggie's first foray into opera and the beginning of a creative collaboration with the work's original author, Sister Helen Prejean, that continues to this day...  and of a beautiful friendship.

In this interview, which took place on the premiere of their third collaborative project ("Seeking Higher Ground: Bruce Springsteen Rocks New Orleans, a theatre piece for chorus and orchestra) at Orange County Performing Arts Center's Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall in October 2006, Jake tells us with affection and humor about Sister Helen Prejean - artistic collaborator, friend and wonderful, compassionate human being ("just like you and me") who happens to be a nun with a powerful message.
