A STAR DRESSING ROOM: extravagant!

At the Ellie, a star is a star is a star - onstage and off.

The architects - and yes, even the acoustician - saw to that.

Of the performers who come to The Ellie, Peter Lucking says:

"We need to pamper them, because the reason we come to these performances is to see them. They are the stars and we need to remember they are the stars and make sure they feel like a star. I think they give their best performance when they are pampered. But it's also saying 'You are important.' The dressing rooms are really about them."

And indeed they are. The backstage spaces are designed to make the performers comfortable and at ease. And the dressing rooms are humidified, as the entire facility is, the humidity preset at 45%, which is the ideal for voice and musical instrument. They're roomy and luxurious, yet there's a home-like atmosphere - possibly the best in the US, if not the world.

But you don't have to take our word for it. Listen to what mezzo soprano Denyce Graves, who opened Opera Colorado's season as Carmen told FanFaire in a phone interview:

"I love the dressing room! It's large and spacious and I can have my daughter in there and she can run around and have the nanny there with her as well. We all have enough space. I love having the luxury. AND my dressing room has a Bösendorfer, which is quite unusual and very... hmmm... extravagant! So, we feel very comfortable and love being there."
